Orthopedic Trauma and Hospital Medical Supplies Delivered to Republic of Kyrgyzstan

An April 24th ceremony marked the official handover of a humanitarian shipment of orthopedic trauma and hospital medical supplies delivered by CitiHope International within the framework of Operation Provide Hope, a U.S. government humanitarian program, to the people of the Kyrgyz Republic in Central Asia.

Officials from the Kyrgyz Ministry of Health, Mr. John Post from the U.S. Department of State “Operation Provide Hope” program, USAID and representatives of the U.S. Embassy in Bishkek were present along with representatives from the two Kyrgyz hospitals that received the donation on behalf of their needy patients.

U.S. Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic Tatiana Gfoeller spoke at the ceremony and included in her remarks the fact that as a result of the donation, over 23,000 patients will benefit from the donation of surgical kits and orthopedic devices.

The shipment, valued at $373,629, included disposable surgical kits for gynecology and general surgeries, respirators, blood collection supplies, IV supplies, sterile arthroscopy sets, orthopedic braces and boots, spinal support supplies, specialized bandages and immobilization splints.

The ceremony took place at the Bishkek Trauma and Orthopedic Research Center (Hospital #4), one of the recipients of the shipment. Samples of the items were on display. Officials attending the ceremony also toured the Center for a first hand look at where the supplies will be used. The Sokuluk Territorial Hospital was the other recipient hospital for this shipment.

The shipment was made possible through partnership by the “Operation Provide Hope” program of the U.S. State Department, CitiHope International, World Vision, Biomet and Cardinal Health.
