CitiHope opened its Caribbean Regional Office in Santo Domingo in the Spring of 2010. Since providing hurricane relief to communities in the San Pedro area in 1998, CHI has engaged in a series of public-private health initiatives to support local schools, orphanages, and church dioceses throughout the country. These grassroots efforts have allowed CitiHope the flexibility to be directly, personally engaged with local heroes and organizations who are already making a world of difference for good in impoverished areas and refugee communities. To date, CitiHope has provided nearly $50 million in support for these Dominican organizations. Ongoing parnerships include: sponsorship of Los Algodones school in Puerto Plata's Samaritan Village; food aid provision to the 'scuba kids' of Cometas de Esperanza school and to Jackie's House, a foster home for neglected children of prostitutes; medical and nutritional donation to Sister Theodora and Servidores de los Enfirmos, and gifts in kind to Casa Nazaret, a diocesan home for abandoned Dominican children. CitiHope and Fundacion RICA staff present food aid from Stop Hunger Now to founders of Jackie's House, a foster home for abandoned and neglected children of prostitutes in Santo Domingo. Sincere thanks to private donors RICA and the Elliott Foundation, and government agencies including the Dominican Republic Ministry of Health and the USAID Country Office, for enabling our vision to support these local heroes. With the appointment of a new Caribbean Director in June 2010, CHI-DR is developing sustainable medical and food initiatives in partnership with local corporations and NGOs to provide ongoing assistance and empowerment to those in need throughout the Caribbean.
