Made possible by businesses and individuals who share the vision of a better world through sharing their blessings with others.
Christmas came for 12 days to impoverished children in the Dominican Republic this holiday season. From December 26th - January 7th, more than three hundred of the city’s poorest children celebrated Christmas and Epiphany with a Christmas feast, entertainment, and a personal gift delivered by Santa Claus (or the “Mago”) - most for the first time in their lives.
With only a 10-day notice to benefactors, the Tuccelli Family was able to realize their dream of serving the needy and sharing the light of Christ from their restaurant, Los Charros y Los Pinches Chaparros restaurant at Cofresí Beach. “We are pleased with the response”, says Tim Tuccelli, CitiHope’s Dominican Republic Country Director, “and express our deepest gratitude to those who generously shared of their blessings with these special groups in our community.”
Costs were kept down with prudent local purchasing and through donations of gifts, transportation and refreshments. Major benefactors for the program include: CitiHope International supporters, Anne Walsh and Barbara from Costambar, Parroquia de Alta Gracia Santiago, John Hoban at OW Marina, Los Charros y Los Pinches Chaparros, the Jamison Family from Winnipeg, Canada, Tiffany Schaeur, Scott McDonald, & Our Children’s Earth Foundation, Reverend Paul & Tamara Moore, and Coca-Cola DR.
All 12 days of Christmas were merrily celebrated for the first time by some of the Dominican Republic’s neediest children. A sincere “Thank You” to all donors and supporters for providing those in need with holiday cheer, and giving the blessing of service that will last for months to come!
